Genuine YiXing Teapot - Elephant and Dragon Boat
Handcrafted YiXing Teapot: Elephant on Dragon Boat
Approx Capacity 400ml (14oz)
Approx Dimensions 7.5 inches x 5 inches
Considered to be the best vessel for brewing tea, YiXing teapots are made of unique sand clays that have wonderful flavor retaining qualities.
YiXing teapots first appeared during the Sung Dynasty (960-1279) in the YiXing region of China. This is the world's only source of the unique clay from which YiXing teapots are made, often called purple clay.
Although classified as purple clay, the mineral clay actually contains a variation of colors. The composition of this unique clay consists mainly of quartz, kaolin, mica and a high volume of iron oxide. Research has shown that this particular clay is completely lead-free and produces the finest pottery in the world.
The clay's unique properties make it ideal for brewing tea. The clay is never hidden by glazes, and the insides are always left uncoated. The porous nature of the clay absorbs the flavor, smell, and color of the tea that is brewed in it. Over time, YiXing teapots develop seasoning from repeated use, making the tea brewed from a well-used teapot a special treat. For this reason, most people will dedicate a single flavor of tea to a specific YiXing teapot.
They are highly prized because of their unique designs, and craftsmanship. YiXing teapots are crafted by hand on a potters wheel, artisans serve long apprenticeships under established masters, receiving rigorous training in all aspects of their craft.
YiXing teapots are generally intended for personal use, producing from one to three servings each time - usually the second or third time water is added the tea releases more flavor. Historically each person carried his own teapot, although there are several larger sizes available for social use.
Teavana Elephant Cast Iron Teapot
An Elephant never forgets...to join you in enjoying a steaming pot of your favorite tea. The Elephant is a symbol of the strength of the mind in Buddhism teachings, as well as astuteness, strength and stature, wisdom, patience, courage and luck.
Joyce Chen J90-0102, Elephant Tetsubin 40-Ounce
The elephant in some Asian cultures symbolism strength, wisdom, courage and gentleness. In Buddhism the elephant is a symbol of mental strength. This majestic animal is the inspiration for the Elephant Tetsub-Inch Like all Joyce Chen handcasted tetsubins, this one is fully enameled in the interior and fitted with a fine stainless steel mesh infuser. The cast iron keeps brewed tea extremely hot yet the interior porcelain enamel keeps the metal from interacting with the tea or imparting a metallic taste. Joyce Chen's slogan Eastern Cookware for the Western Kitchen, reflects her focus on providing high-quality, versatile tools and products that have Asian flair, but can be used in a western kitchen. Joyce Chen opened her first restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1958. The restaurant flourished, and in 1973 a larger Cambridge restaurant was opened. Chen also began writing Chinese cookbooks and in the 1970s began hosting a cooking show on public television. She found that the selection and quality of Chinese cookware in America didn't live up to her high standards so she developed her own. Today, Joyce Chen Products come from all over the Pacific Rim to bring the best of Asia to you.
